About Orthotics
A properly designed orthotic will comfortably support and control the foot through all phases of movement. Westcoast Orthopedic Laboratories designs and manufactures custom orthotics for sport, dance, and dailywear foot attire with both performance and comfort in mind.
Many people can be classified as having one of two feet types. Once this is determined, an orthotic with a common correction can be recommended. Ailments and injuries related to instability and over-pronation include shin splints, Achilles tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, heel spurs, and ankle, hip, and back pain. Many other problems will also be remedied if orthotics are worn.
Westcoast Orthopedic Laboratories' orthotics are especially helpful for people with excessive pronation (the foot and ankle rolling inwards) because of their forefoot wedging system. The Forefoot Wedge controls pronation more effectively than a rearfoot orthotic and is very beneficial in sports that put a lot of strain on the front of the foot. The wedge provides maximum power in every stride, improving performance in both recreational athletes and in those winning Olympic Gold (some of our elite customers). The wedge has also proven effective for professional hockey players, figure skaters, and dancers.
This independent study shows how rearfoot and forefoot posting enhance both the effectiveness and comfort of orthotics. The orthotics available through our website offer very similar corrections to those used in the study group. Our custom orthotics take you one step further, by increasing or decreasing the posting based on an in-person or remote assessment by Bruce Turcotte. This study was performed many years after Westcoast Orthopedic Laboratories helped bring forefoot posting orthotics to the market and supports that the full-foot orthotics we provide are the best available. Westcoast Orthopedic Laboratories also offers Cushioned Arch Supports for those individuals with high arches and feet that do not pronate.
